The temptation to tell a protagonist led story must be avoided, instead, the situation ought to be described as it is.
In biological organisms there is a general intention to thrive. This intention is passive compared to the conscious intention of a striving personality. In accord with the general intention of physical being there is an organism wide distribution of choice mechanisms. The cells of organisms each have within them a bio-logic that enables them to respond to change in their situation. This bio-logic is constrained by the organismic intention to thrive. This organism wide distribution and it’s very even character make narrative impossible and thwarts our very human tendency to create a protagonist and tell a story. Biologists ought to eschew narration and embrace description.
